Health and wellness are one of those things most people don’t start working on until they start losing it.
Don’t be like most people.
The best time to start doing anything in life is when it’s easy. The best time to start saving money is when you have it. The best time to start taking care of your health is while your healthy.
The Greatest Wealth is Great Health.
Keys to Good Health and Wellness
As the old saying goes, you are what you eat. So if you don’t watch what you eat, don’t be surprised when unexpected signs of a decline in health start popping up. I’m not a nutritionist, but I do know there are all-natural supplements you can add to your daily diet that don’t require you to change your eating habits.
If you like simplicity like I do, than you may want to go that route. If not, it’s best for you to consult a physician or the most in-shape person you know and ask them what you should and should not be putting into your body.
On every health and wellness list, you’ll find that sleep is one of the main requirements to living a long and healthy life. Don’t go overboard on this and use it as an excuse to lie around in bed all day.
You generally want to simply make sure you’re getting a consistent 7-9 hours of sleep a night. Sleep is when your body naturally “recharges” and replenishes all of the mental and physical resources you consumed throughout the day. If you don’t think sleep is valuable, try going 3 days without any. The hallucinations you will begin seeing and the tricks your mind will play on you will be spectacular, NOT!
Don’t let those stories of CEO’s and vice-presidents who sleep 4 hours a night fool you, odds are they’re health is probably suffering due to that rigorous schedule. Our goal here is a long life. Not a stressful one. If you’re someone who goes to the gym regularly, the benefits of sleep are exponential.
Personal wellness is a balance of everything you deal will on a daily basis. You may not know it but that issue you’re dealing with at home is affecting that project at work. Being able to effectively compartmentalize and manage your everyday stress will go a long way towards a life of success and fulfillment.
There are so many illnesses and diseases that are created or made worse by stress that it’s important to find ways to simplify the daily demands of life. Some recommendations that help reduce stress include: meditation, sports, outdoor activities, exercise and for your risk-takers things like tai chi and yoga are incredibly valuable.
At the risk of scaring you into thinking this is a some new-age blog I’ll simply say is this: What you think matters. So be careful what you feed your mind.
Have you ever noticed that if you go to sleep after watching a horror movie, it seems to replay itself in your dreams with you as the main character? Or that if you stub your toe first thing in the morning and start your day pissed off, it carries on throughout the rest of your daily activities? That’s no coincidence. Your life is simply obeying your thoughts. If you think today sucks…guess what? Today sucks. But if you watch an uplifting movie before bed or laugh off that stubbed toe and go about your day with a positive attitude, good things will generally start happening.
